LWOW Original
(NOT CURRENTLY OFFERED)
WHAT IT IS:
4-Month part-in-person/part-virtual experiential learning program designed for practicing and aspiring lawyers that brings a human-centered design perspective to law. LWOW O unites teams of approximately four law and business professionals (who serve as “Team Leaders,” “Topic Experts,” and/or “Mentors”) along with three students (the “Hackers”) from more than 35 law and business schools around the world. Over the course of the 4 months, each team learns and applies the 3-4-5 Method of Innovation created by LWOW’s founder, Michele DeStefano, to co-create a Project of Worth: a business case and practicable solution to a real problem assigned and sponsored by a corporate legal department, law company, or law firm. Teams also attend weekly webinars that provide substantive training to help teams reach their goals (topics include consumer storytelling, prototyping, branding and business planning, and more).
WHO'S INVOLVED:
Academics, lawyers, arbitrators, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, regulators, judges, compliance professionals, business executives, technologists, and law and business students.
HOW IT WORKS: THE 3-4-5 Method of INNOVATION
LWOW is a team-based experiential method of learning and occurs in 3 phases over 4 months with a 5 Step process. Each team is sponsored by a law department, a law firm/company, or other professional service provider. The sponsoring entity assigns the team a problem it (or its client) is experiencing and wants solved. After narrowing down the challenge to a manageable-sized problem, the team’s charge is to create a solution to the problem (along with a prototype, business case, and commercial) and then present that solution to the LWOW community. Teams accomplish this by following the 5-Steps to a Project of Worth.
